Bobcaygeon at a Glance
True to the words of the modern ballad, constellations can be seen twinkling
in the sky in Bobcageon, found 166 km north east of Toronto’s
bright lights. This unique town rests on three islands set in the narrow strip
between two lakes, and is joined by seven bridges. Water is a key element to
many of the recreational opportunities in Bobycaygeon, which include everything
from fishing, swimming and canoeing in the lakes to cruising the Trent
Severn Waterway, stopping at the waterways’ oldest operating lock (built
in 1835) along the way. But earth is not forgotten, as visitors can saunter
through the assemblage of pioneer buildings and homes at the Kawartha
Settlers Village, or spin their wheels at the annual mud–splattering Jeep
Jamboree. The city is also home to the Bobcaygeon
Fair, a century old event that presents animal competitions, a midway, contests,
a parade and a classic crush or be crushed demolition derby.
